Long Distance Move from Maine to Arizona

"DO NOT. DO NOT. DO NOT. WARNING! This was one of the worst business experiences of my life. Value Added Moving hired 51 States Relocation for my move from Maine to Arizona. The broker quoted $3,200, then increased it to $7,200 after a detailed inventory review four days before pickup.

When 51 States Relocation arrived, its crew said the revised estimate was nowhere near the actual cost and told me the move would cost $26,000. I had to vacate my house that day and could not pay that amount. I left nearly all my furniture behind just to move my personal belongings. Even after removing most of my furniture, the cost was about $14,000—nearly twice the four-day-old estimate.

Pickup was June 30, with delivery quoted for July 10. Our property did not arrive until July 18.

The condition of our belongings was shocking. Every cardboard box was crushed, every plastic tote was broken, my desk was broken, and my paddleboard had a large hole. My mattress had been wrapped in a protective bag but a"

"51states relocation company is very unscrupulous and inept. First, this company was very late to pick up my things. They charged me an extra $2500 on top of the agreed payment before they even loaded my stuff! Second, my expected delivery was to have been 5-10 business days from pickup. However, my stuff arrived 15 business days from pickup. It took 12 business days from pickup to get an update on my delivery. Every time I called this company, the response was the same: we will forward your concerns to our dispatch. Communication from this company was abysmal! Finally, I was informed of my delivery date and time. They guaranteed my stuff would be delivered between 12-2pm. However, they arrived 4 hours past the delivery time in an 18 wheeler to my apartment complex! The driver argued he had no space to unload so he was trying to charge me an extra 400 dollars to change to a smaller truck! To add further insult, this unprofessional moving company has destroyed my 65in TV as well. "
